Opponents sue over building plan for Princeton Battlefield
Opponents are suing over the Institute for Advanced Study’s plan to build housing on part of the site of the Revolutionary War’s Battle of Princeton.
The institute where Albert Einstein worked received planning board permission last month to build 15 units of faculty housing on a portion of the site.
The Princeton Battlefield Society filed suit trying to block the construction, arguing that it violates an agreement between the institute and Princeton Township.
Opponents also say it would cause environmental problems and brush aside important history.
George Washington defeated the British at the Battle of Princeton in January 1777.
A spokeswoman for the institute said it is moving ahead with its plans based on the planning board’s unanimous approval.
