Online beg

Yet another update from the industrious Peter Crimmins:

Several Philadelphia-based artists are participating in a microphilanthropic site called United States Artists.  The site is officially launching today.

It’s like crowdsourcing money: artists post descriptions of their current projects, and people are invited to donate online as little as $1 or as much as they like. During the beta-phase of the site, prominent photographer Zoe Strauss successfully funded a project to photograph the aftermath of the BP oil spill, and a West Kensington community ceramics studio has collected enough to install a new kiln.
