No cease fire

Guns are just one more thing for Democratic candidate for Governor Dan Onorato and his opponent, Republican Tom Corbett, to fight over.

The gun violence prevention group CeaseFire PA endorsed Onorato in Philadelphia today. The endorsement comes as a bill called the “Castle Doctrine” is gaining considerable support from Pa. lawmakers and may find its way to the Governor’s desk.

The bill removes the legal requirement to retreat before using deadly forced for people who are threatened outside of their homes.

Onorato opposes it as to expansive, and many say it could be a defense for street violence.

Corbett supports the bill, and says it really just codifies what is already legal practice.

WHYY’s Lizz Fielder is covering the story in All Things Considered this afternoon on 91 FM.

And if you love politics, tomorrow Lizz will be getting back into the battling Patricks – Democrat Patrick Murphy and Republican Michael Fitzpatrick, in the Eighth Congressional District of Pennsylvania. This bout will be at the gritty scene of a fundraiser luncheon at a boarded up cement plant.
