NJ trooper escapes serious injury as lightning hits car

New Jersey State Police say a trooper apparently escaped serious injury when his cruiser was struck by lightning at a Garden State Parkway construction site.

The incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. Tuesday in Middle Township.

Officials say the trooper was inside the vehicle at the time, and it’s not yet clear if the trooper was also struck by lightning. The trooper did not appear to suffer any injuries, but was being evaluated at a hospital.

The trooper’s name has not been released.
