N.J. town renames building after Obama

John F. Kennedy’s name is coming off a town-owned building in New Jersey, and President Barack Obama’s name is going on it.

Willingboro’s township council approved the resolution on Tuesday.

The building opened as a high school in 1966 and was named for the assassinated 35th president. It’s now owned by township, used as a recreation center and undergoing renovations.

Councilman Chris Walker tells the Burlington County Times the change isn’t meant as a slight against Kennedy. Walker thinks it’s an opportune time to honor the 44th president. He notes the building is on John F. Kennedy Way.

One resident, Jacqueline Mack, says people who live in the town should have a say.

Willingboro is a largely Democratic town that strongly supported Obama in the 2008 and 2012 elections.
