N.J. Assembly committee approves legislation to keep teens out of tanning beds

The New Jersey Assembly’s Women and Children Committee has advanced legislation that would prohitbit anyone under age 18 from using indoor tanning beds.

Currently, 14- to 17-year-olds can use tanning beds with their parents’ permission. But allegations against a Nutley woman accused of bringing her 5-year-old into the tanning salon have sparked a desire for more legislation.

The Associated Press reports the committee voted 5-0, with two members abstaining, to keep people under 18 out of tanning beds. It’s not clear when the full Assembly will take a vote.
