Newark Police arrest 12 UD students following Sept. street party

Newark Police arrested 12 additional University of Delaware students for their alleged involvement in a Sept. 9 street party that raged through the city of Newark, blocking traffic and causing damage to both private and city property.

Nicholas Graham, Michael Perry, Kevin Davis, Jose Tunas, Clare Murphy, Jeffrey Cook, Heather DeSavino, Keith Green, Michael Williams, Aaron Yancey, Alexa Birtwistle and Jonah Green were charged with disorderly conduct and pedestrian walking along roadway where sidewalks are provided.

They were all released on their own recognizance pending future court appearances.

Following the incident, Newark Police released images from security camera footage of the event and asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspects.

Police are still trying to identify more than 30 other suspects. The list of images is available on the Newark Police Depsrtment’s Facebook page.

The wild party was a result of “I’m Shmacked,” an online event promoter that goes to various campuses across the country and films students partying. The UD party allegedly started at a campus residence known as the “rugby house” and quickly spilled onto Main Street in downtown Newark.

University of Delaware called the Sept. 9 incident “an embarrassing, dangerous and costly episode,” and suspended the club rugby team for 5 years.
