Newark Charter School seeks to move forward with expansion plan

Newark Charter School’s plans for an upper school facility may see action at tonight’s council meeting.

The school is hoping to buy a plot of land on McIntire Drive to convert an abandoned warehouse into a new school with athletic fields and other facilities.  Tonight, Newark City Council is expected to vote on a request to rezone the plot of land in the Newark Interstate Business Park to accommodate the Charter School plan.  City officials say the vote tonight is focused upon the rezoning issue, and is not going to be a decision about the philosophical advantages or disadvantages of charter schools vs. traditional public schools.   Newark City Council meets at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
