New president for Temple Health System and medical school

Temple Health System is gearing up for the arrival of a new president. Larry Kaiser will assume the role of president of Temple University Health System and School of Medicine April 1.

The former chair of of surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Health System will leave his current position as president and chairman of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston to take the job at Temple.

Kaiser will replace the Health System president Edmond F. Notebaert, who oversaw the highly criticized closing of Northeastern Hospital; and med school dean John Daly, who will return to a faculty position.

As the Inquirer reports, Kaiser plans to help the hospital continue serving the North Philadelphia community while also drawing better paying patients who seek out the hospital’s specialized treatments.
