New Castle County Police shoot man

New Castle County Police are still investigating the shooting of a man outside of the Harbor Club Apartment complex in Newark on Thursday.

New Castle County police say the man was in his early 30’s.  Police still haven’t released details on what led up to the shooting, which took place in the first block of Cheswold Boulevard just after 4pm.  He was shot in the chest.  When paramedics arrived on the scene they treated him as they transported him to Christiana Hospital where he later died.

The News Journal reports the incident began as a traffic stop.  The name of the man involved has not been released.  The paper reports he was driving an SUV, which crashed into a fence striking some cars.  They interviewed one eyewitness who reported seeing the man leave his car covered in blood.

Cpl. John Weglarz, New Castle County police spokesman, says the officers involved in the shooting are on administrative desk duty.  He adds that is standard procedure in cases like this.
