New Castle County officer is first killed since 1972

    The New Castle County police officer killed this morning is the first since 1972, according to police statistics.

    Joseph Szczerba was stabbed in the neck early this morning while arresting a suspect in the Penn Acres neighborhood, as WHYY/NewsWorks’ John Mussoni reports. Two other officers were treated for minor injuries and the suspect is now in custody.
