Need to report a crime in Delaware? There’s an app for that

Delaware State Police have launched a new cellphone app to make it easier for the public to send crime tips to investigators.

A spokesman said the app is the latest way for people who witness or know about criminal activity to report that information to police.

“By the use of smart phone technology, we want to make it as easy and convenient as possible to provide anonymous tips on crimes and criminal activity,” said Sgt. Paul Shavack, Director of Public Information for the State Police.  “When the public becomes involved and provides crime tips, it helps keep their communities safe.”

The mobile app allows witnesses to report information including location, activity, suspect and descriptions. It even allows photos from the scene to be forwarded to police.

The app joins other methods of reporting tips including the Crime Stoppers hotline (1-800-TIP-3333), emailing crimestoppers@state.de.us and via tipsubmit.com.
