NEast Philly: Blood drive for Northeast Philly police officer wounded on duty

The Northeast Donor Center, 1401 Rhawn St., is one of three facilities hosting a blood drive in response to a shooting earlier this week that left Philadelphia Police Officer Edward Davies in critical condition.

Davies, who is from the Northeast and works in the 25th District, was shot in the abdomen during a struggle with a suspect accused of fleeing a traffic stop.

Requests for blood donations started almost immediately, and will continue through the weekend. Civilians and off-duty officers can go to the American Red Cross Donor Center on Rhawn Street Saturday or Sunday between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.
