Nearly 600 vases stolen from cemeteries in Del.

State police and cemetery officials say close to 600 bronze vases have been stolen from cemeteries in Delaware since late November.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports the stolen vases have likely been sold for scrap. The vases, which hold flowers at gravesites, can sell for hundreds of dollars.

In 2011 a man was charged with stealing 120 bronze vases from the graves at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle County. But the superintendent at Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington says the recent thefts are the worst the area has seen. Superintendent Scott W. Hudson says his cemetery has had 50 to 75 vases stolen.

State police say Silverbrook Cemetery in Wilmington reported about 300 vases stolen. Vases were also stolen at All Saints Cemetery in Milltown.
