Over 2k without power in Ocean County this evening

A power outage is impacting portions of Ocean County this evening.

According to JCP&L, approximately 2,300 electric utility customers are without power as of 10:30 p.m.

Of the 2,300 power customers in the dark, nearly 2,000 are in Jackson and the remainder in Beachwood, or about 9% customer base in each municipality.

The JCP&L outage map indicates “equipment damage” in the Surf Avenue area near the Garden State Park as the cause in Beachwood, with the Jackson outage under investigation.

The Jackson outage is near the Leesville section of the township, according to JCP&L.

According to emergency radio transmissions, firefighters responded to a pole transformer fire this evening near the reported outage area.

JCP&L expects restoration in both municipalities by 12:30 a.m.

News 12 meteorologist Michele Powers tweeted that she is seeing reports of wires and trees down, adding that power outages are possible due to winds.
