NBA cancels first two weeks of season amid labor negotiations

Two weeks of the NBA season are gone after Commissioner David Stern made good on his promise yesterday to cancel two weeks of games is no collective bargaining agreement could be reached. That’s 100 games, according to the Associated Press, and further cancellations could come. That’s an $83 million loss, at minimum, based on average ticket sales from last season.

Later, we’ll hear from WHYY/NewsWorks’ Tom MacDonald on how the local economy will feel the hit of fewer games. The team’s website already reflect the cancellation, with no games posted until Nov. 16.

At least we can delay another Philly sports disappointment.
