Navy destroyer will become artificial reef in Atlantic Ocean

This afternoon, Del. Gov. Jack Markell will watch alongside marine and environmental groups as a former Navy destroyer sinks into the Atlantic Ocean.

The USS Radford will become an artificial reef in the ocean. Dubbed the Del-Jersey-Land Reef, the ship will rest 26 miles off the coast, equidistant from Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland.

Look for details later from Peter Crimmins, who will cover the sinking and the ship’s history on the water.
