New Jersey’s Attorney General says Dr. Steven Brigham’s privileges should be pulled. Paul Loriquet is a spokesman for the attorney general’s office, which filed the complaint against the doctor.
Loriquet: He used the two-state scheme, New Jersey and in this case Maryland, to flout the law that prohibits doctors from performing abortions outside of a hospital or other licensed facility after the 14th week of pregnancy, and we believe he put his patients at risk of serious harm by doing so.
The complaint also alleges that Brigham created false records to obscure the fact that he initiated abortions in New Jersey and completed those procedures in Maryland.
Brigham is not licensed to perform abortions in Maryland.
In legal documents, Brigham has denied he tried to evade the law. Brigham’s attorney has argued that New Jersey’s medical board does not have jurisdiction over the doctor’s conduct outside of the state.
