Delaware State Police are again asking for the public’s help in solving the murder of a Sussex County cab driver.

William Toomey was killed on the evening of August 20 after he picked up a passenger in his taxi in Rehoboth Beach. In the weeks since, detectives have been able to map the final route Toomey drove before his taxi van was abandoned on Country Living Rd. in Millsboro with his body inside.

Police said the taxi was seen around 8:45 p.m. in that area with a man who did not match the description of Toomey sitting in the driver’s seat.

Police are now asking for help from anyone who may have seen someone walking in the area of Country Living Rd. or who saw someone get in the taxi on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth around 7:42 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call Homicide Detective Mark Ryde at (302) 299-6102. Tips can also be left on the Delaware Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-TIP-3333.

Police said they aren’t releasing any more details of the circumstances surrounding the killing “to not compromise the integrity of continued investigative efforts.”
