Mummer’s Hall for sale – where will they go?

As Brownstoner reported this morning, the Greater Kensington String Band is selling its long-standing Tacony residence [photo].

The hall, at Cottman Avenue and Edmund Street — near recently rehabbed Russo Park and nightmarish I95 construction — has been home to the mummers brigade for the past 45 years.

Affectionately known as the Greater K, the band formed in 1946, and has been in the top five and top 10 among its stiff competition, including two first-place hauls.

We’re told there’s no one at the hall today who can answer our questions regarding why the building is for sale and where the Greater K will go from here. The building’s price tag is $549,999.
