Moonlight Movies to feature rebroadcast of the Olympic opening ceremony

The public is invited to watch the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games together under the stars in Mt. Airy. This presentation is part of a summer movies series produced by Mt. Airy USA (MAUSA). The three-hour event on July 27 will be a rebroadcast on a large screen outside in the garden of the Lovett branch library, 6945 Germantown Avenue.

The theme for the Summer Olympics’ opening ceremony is “The Isle of Wonder“, a tribute to Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The ceremony’s artistic director, filmmaker Danny Boyle, also drew some heavy inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. British electronic duo, Underworld are the event’s music directors. Some of the confirmed performers for the opening ceremonies include Duran Duran, Snow Patrol, Stereophonics and Paolo Nutini. Legendary film spy, British secret agent 007 – aka James Bond – will be featured in a short film specially commissioned for the occasion.

The full line-up of the MAUSA’s Moonlight Movies series was announced this week. The family-friendly movie nights run Friday nights June 22-August 17. The films will begin at 8 p.m.

Because many of last summer’s movie events were rained out, MAUSA has chosen the Cliveden Carriage House as its alternative viewing location for the series in case bad weather strikes.
