MLK High and Imhotep lose out on chance at city title

The Martin Luther King High Cougars and Imhotep Panthers both fell short of city titles to their higher ranked Catholic League opponents on Friday night.

Imhotep fell to Neumann-Goretti 74-77 and MLK lost to Roman Catholic 57-58 during the games at St. Joesph’s Hagan Arena.

Both public league teams from Northwest Philadelphia came close to upsetting the Catholic schools.

Imhotep and Neumann each stayed within one to three to points of each other throughout Friday’s game. With 15 seconds remaining the Saints drove into the Panther’s territory where DQaude Green sunk a three-pointer.

A just-in-time timeout left one second on the clock. A desperation half-court attempt failed to connect after the buzzer.

While the MLK Cougar’s fell behind in the score at several points during Friday’s game they continued to rally back into the final seconds of regulation.

The game ended in a similar fashion as Imhotep’s tough loss with a timeout followed by a less-than-two-seconds on the clock long shot from down court that didn’t hit its mark as time expired.
