Singer-songwriter Miguel and country music artist Jennifer Nettles will headline the concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on July 4 for the Wawa Welcome America festivities.

Philadelphia does its best to find performers of note for the event, said Mayor Michael Nutter Tuesday.

“It’s probably virtually impossible to make everyone happy,” he said. “On the other hand, it is a big free outdoor concert, and, if your artist is not there who we may have tried to have come, you never know, you can always see them when they come to town.”

Desiree Peterkin Bell, who is organizing Welcome America, says The Roots also will play.

“You can’t buy a ticket this year for the Roots picnic because it’s sold out,” she said. “So the only way you can see them for free is if you come to this concert.”
