Mess Fest, Folk Fest, Ghostbusters & more family fun this weekend
There is still PLENTY of summer left, with lots of great activities for the family.
Mess Fess at the Franklin Institute, Saturday & Sunday August 18th – 19th, 12:00-4:00pm
Get ready to get really mess at the Franklin Mess Fest in the Bartol Atrium and on the Front Steps! The Mess Fest promises the best in slimy, oozing, exploding and gooey science. Bring a change of clothes and prepare to get MESSY!
Kids will see what happens when you combine ultra-cold liquid nitrogen with steaming hot water and 2,000 colorful balls. They will watch the Soap Bubble Master spread suds and witness the chemical reaction that makes enormous elephant toothpaste. Make-n-takes for kids include Alka-Seltzer Rockets and gooey gloopy Slime. Check out the video above for a sneak peek. All events free with Museum admission.
The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Thursday through Sunday, August 16th – August 19th
The oldest continuous folk festival in the US, this three day festival includes an array of performers, plenty of children’s programs, dancing and much more. Don’t be intimated by all those campers, you can take the kids just for the day and listen to acts including Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle and The Dukes, John Hiatt and the Combo, Little Feat and Mike Cross. Moonlight Movies at Lovett, Friday, August 17th
This Friday’s free movie screening outside Germantown’s Lovett Memorial Library is Ghostbusters! Bring blankets or chairs to the Lovett Memorial Park (beside library) at 6945 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia 19119. Movies promptly begin at 8:30pm. Moonlight Movies in Mt Airy.
