Political conventions are theatrical displays of partisan pride, but they’re also about choosing a presidential nominee and voting on a platform that helps set the policy agenda in the years ahead. 

None of that happens without the delegates: the thousands of people elected by their constituents to represent them at the convention. 

NewsWorks/WHYY spoke to five delegates from Philadelphia to find out why they ran for the job, what they hope to get out of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, and what they think is at stake in the 2016 election (hint: everything).
