Wolf’s top aide nears decision on run for U.S. Senate

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s top aide is still deciding whether to run for U.S. Senate as other Democrats report that she’s seriously considering it and seeking advice.

A spokesman said Tuesday that Katie McGinty expects to make a decision soon.

McGinty is also being encouraged by national Democrats and Emily’s List, a Democratic group backing female candidates who support abortion rights.

Former Gov. Ed Rendell said he advised McGinty that there’s a chance she could win, but she’ll have two tough elections. The first would be against Democrat Joe Sestak in the spring 2016 primary and the second would be against Republican incumbent Pat Toomey in the fall 2016 general election.

Rendell and others say raising money will be crucial in a primary race where Sestak already has strong connections to the party’s grassroots.
