McGeehan says red-light cameras are for more than revenue

Should Philadelphia’s red-light camera program be expanded throughout the state?

Maybe, says State Rep. Mike McGeehan.

In response to the state Transportation Funding Advisory Commission’s consideration of expanding the program to generate revenue, McGeehan told WHYY’s Tom MacDonald the safety cameras aren’t meant to be used solely as revenue generators, but that he wouldn’t rule out an expansion.

How much revenue do those cameras generate? More than $28 million between their 2005 installation and June of this year.
