Mayor Nutter sworn in Monday

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter was sworn in earlier today for his second term as the city’s mayor in a ceremony at The Academy of Music.

In his inaugural address, Mayor Nutter said one of his main focuses this term is to continue to try to slow the city’s homicide rate.

NBC 10 reports the Mayor promised 120 new officers on patrol by summer of 2012 as one way to begin to fix the homicide problem. Another goal set by the Mayor today was to get illegal guns off the streets.

NewsWorks will have additional coverage of Mayor Nutter’s address and the ceremony on NewsWorks Tonight at 6 p.m.
