Markell to make civil unions legal in Delaware

    Del. Gov. Jack Markell says he’ll sign into law a bill passed yesterday to legalize same-sex civil unions. After two hours of debate, the House voted 26-15 to pass the bill that will officially recognize same-sex unions.

     

    WHYY’s Bill Cook spoke last night to Delaware residents who’d been waiting for the news – some with excitement, some with dread.

    But Markell was supportive, saying, “When it came to this legislation, it was clear that it was about rights, it was about opportunity and it was about time.”
