Man injured in house collapse in South Philadelphia

Police say a man is reported in stable condition after a house collapse in South Philadelphia.

Officials said the 39-year-old man was on the third floor of the building in the Grays Ferry neighborhood when it collapsed shortly after 7:30 a.m. Saturday. He was taken to Presbyterian Hospital for treatment of back pain.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that a rapid response team of inspectors from the city’s Department of Licenses and Inspections was sent to check on the building. Department spokeswoman Karen Guss said inspectors also want to make sure the area is safe for neighbors.
