Man tries to rob East Germantown pizza deliveryman, dies

An armed thief who was rushed to the hospital after being shot with his own gun in a Monday night robbery that didn’t go as he planned has died, according to police.

A 33-year-old man was delivering pizza when an unknown male, who lured him to a bogus address, came from around the driveway, brandished a handgun and demanded money.

The victim handed over his wallet and $100. Fearful of being shot, the victim reached for the robber’s gun. The two men got into a scuffle. When the robbery victim gained possession of the gun, he shot the robber twice.

Police then found the 26-year-old robber at about 8:15 p.m. on the 700 block of E. Price St., shot in the neck and buttocks. The man, whose identity was not yet released pending family notification, was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:14 a.m. today.
