‘Major’ changes coming to Market East Station

Big changes are coming to a SEPTA rail station familiar to many a commuter.

Speculation, according to Technically Philly, is that the regional rail hub Market East will be renamed Jefferson Station. Thomas Jefferson University is located near the station.

SEPTA spokeswoman Jerri Williams declined to respond to the name change rumor.

She did confirm that something is in the works.

“SEPTA will be making an announcement about major changes for Market East in the very near future, but we’re not ready to discuss those changes at this time,” Williams said Thursday.

Market East Station opened in 1984 as part of the Center City Commuter Tunnel project.
