Lower Merion School District poised to give students email accounts

In effort to encourage students to keep in touch after graduation, Lower Merion School District is considering creating email accounts for its students and providing them online storage space.

The early plan includes only current students, who would have their @students.lmsd.org accounts available for a year after graduation, the Main Line Times reports.
A plan like this requires the district to tread lightly, so it would expand and update its policy to include guidelines for the accounts. Once the program rolls out, every student will have an account unless a parent or guardian writes to the district requesting otherwise.

The program could be in place by April for the 2012 graduating class.
