Local bakeries mad at Vineland mayor for cake snub
As Vineland readies for its 150th birthday party, Mayor Robert Romano and his Blue Ribbon Committee have been working to throw a party to celebrate all things Vineland.
But by going outside the city for a cake, Romano’s made some local bakeries mad. The cake is set to come from Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop in Hoboken, the setting of TLC’s Cake Boss reality show.
Romano tells the Daily Journal the decision will bring attention to the party; local bakers say the Vineland bash should serve cake from Vineland.
The Daily Journal’s report highlight’s a lack of communication between the committee and the bakers; both sides say they’d have been happy to work with the other, but neither reached out and neither offered.
Though Romano agreed yesterday to meet with bakery owners to discuss their involvement, plans for a Cake Boss cake are still on track. The papers articles that ran Friday and Monday have brought in 150 comments thus far.
