Let’s Hear It for the Red, White and Blue!

The Center City District (CCD) will join the celebration of Memorial Day, the unofficial beginning of summer, by casting patriotic hues of red, white and blue on a dozen historic buildings along the Avenue of the Arts.  The CCD has created year-round special lighting for these buildings, but on Monday, May 30, they will make you feel like saluting the flag!

Across town, the Cira Centre will be grand with the glow of Old Glory’s colors and the PECO building will be wishing everyone a “Happy Memorial Day” on its message board.

Meanwhile, on the Delaware River, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge will make the water below twinkle with stars-and-stripes hues.

“With the help of businesses and property owners, the Center City District is celebrating Memorial Day and the beginning of a great season in Center City,” said Paul R. Levy, president and CEO of the Center City District.

Many of the participating buildings use color-changing LED lighting, due to its energy efficiency, long life, its effectiveness in highlighting distinctive architectural details and its ability to provide programmable light shows for holidays and citywide celebrations at a much lower cost.

Participating building managers/property owners include: the Brandywine Realty Trust; Delaware River Port Authority; PECO; and the Center City District.

The Center City District, a private-sector sponsored business improvement district dedicated to making Center City Philadelphia clean, safe and attractive, is committed to maintaining Center City’s competitive edge as a regional employment center, a quality place to live, and a premier regional destination for dining, shopping and cultural attractions.
