Legislative staffers fear layoffs amid Christie’s cuts

New Jersey’s legislative staffers are facing budget cuts that could affect them directly.

Of the $1 billion Gov. Chris Christie cut from the Democrats’ budget proposal, $3.9 million came from the account used to pay legislative staffers, NJ.com reports.

Earlier this year, Christie and the Dems agreed to $29.7 million to fund the Senate and Assembly, but a chunk of that was cut in Christie’s final look-through.

Christie’s office has refused to comment on the matter since the budget was passed last night, but staffers are worried layoffs are coming.
