Last day for Mercer County residents to register for rain barrels, compost bins

For Mercer County, N.J., residents, today is the final day to register for rain barrels and compost bins, which will be distributed two weeks from now in Trenton.

The Mercer County Improvement Authority is holding a one-day sale on the items Nov. 19, and anyone who wants to buy one or both needs to register for theirs by today.

“Composting and rain collection are effective ways to help the environment and reduce waste, and a great addition to any Mercer County back yard,” County Executive Brian M. Hughes said in a news release from the county.

The sale is the county’s way of helping homeowners do their part to reduce pollution and soil erosion. Compost bins will be sold for $55.00 and the rain barrels for $75.00, but only if you register in advance. You can do that online or by calling ((609) 278-8100. Registering today for a compost bin will get you a free scrap bucket.
