Landmark eatery reopens after Sandy

A landmark Atlantic City eatery is reopening Thursday after repairing damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.

White House Sub Shop will operate between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Arctic Avenue location where it has been for more than 65 years.

Co-owner Brian Conley tells The Press of Atlantic City the booths are the same and the stools are in the same place.

The eatery’s other owner, Jen Basile, says even when the shop was clearly under renovation, customers tried to come in and order.

“It was amazing,” she said.  “No matter what it looked like in here, it was totally torn apart, wood all over the place, workers all over, people would actually come in and still stare at the menu if we didn’t stop them at the door.”

The owners had to replace refrigeration units, a water heater and other equipment damaged by Sandy.
