With fireworks, SugarHouse gives preview of Philly New Year’s celebration

SugarHouse Casino hosted a preview of its New Year’s celebration Thursday afternoon, announcing its sponsorship of the Penn’s Landing New Year’s Fireworks Display and of the Mummer’s Parade. A Mummer band and a 60-second daytime fireworks display hinted at what the casino has in store for welcoming in the year 2013.

SugarHouse General Manager Wendy Hamilton and other members of the casino’s staff were on hand to demonstrate some of the excitement to come, yelling, “Happy New Year!” and clapping along with the band. Hamilton even did the famous Mummer’s strut. “

We love this holiday,” Hamilton said. “This is a place for a party and what better way to show our stuff than New Year’s.”

For New Year’s Eve, the casino has planned a dance party with an open bar, and fireworks at 6 p.m. and midnight on Penn’s Landing where concession stands will sell hot chocolate and deep-fried ores all night.  Free parking will be available at the casino on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The Sugar Express trolley service will run to and from other festivities in the city like the Mummer’s Parade.

SugarHouse Casino is working in conjunction with the Delaware Waterfront Corporation. Hamilton said the DWC plans the New Years events. “We’re a casino so we come up with the money,” she said. “We’re happy to do it.”
