Kenney wants to change restaurant credit card fee practices

Some restaurants in Philadelphia take the 3 percent credit card processing fee from the wait staff’s tips. City Councilman Jim Kenney will introduce a measure to council to stop this practice.

“If I’m leaving an 18-20 percent tip, I expect that to go into the pocket of the person who waited on me, not three percent skimmed off the top to go to the owner of the restaurant,” Kenney told KYW.

The measure would prevent restaurants from taking the fee out of the gratuity meant for the waiter or waitress.
