Philly judge faces disciplinary charges

A Philadelphia judge faces disciplinary action after he allegedly failed to report legal problems to the bar association that later recommended him for election.

The state Judicial Conduct Board on Tuesday charged Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Thomas Nocella with violating judicial canons and the state constitution.

Nocella allegedly failed to report numerous lawsuits to the Philadelphia Bar Association in 2009 and 2011 while the group was trying to determine if it would offer him an endorsement.

Nocella’s attorney tells The Philadelphia Inquirer he hopes to resolve the case without having his client removed from the bench.
