Jenkintown businesses reject another five years of Business Improvement District

Jenkintown business owners have decided against another five years of the borough’s Business Improvement District.

The borough announced earlier this week that more than 50 percent of the owners of 170 Jenkintown businesses voted over the last few months not to renew the BID, which would have been implemented in January and run through 2017.

The Globe Times reports many owners said the lack of communication between the BID and the Jenkintown Community Alliance jeopardize the BID’s effectiveness. The 33 empty storefronts were also a thorn in business owners’ sides.

About $200,000 of the JCA’s annual budget game fromthe BID, which means that money will now have to come from elsewhere.
