    A scorcher!

A heat advisory is in place amid excessive heat and humidity today.

According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures will rise into the lower 90s away from the coast. But adding in the heat index, it will feel even hotter, likely around 100 degrees.

Relief will be at the beaches, where the high temperatures will reach the lower to middle 80s and the ocean temperature is in the lower 70s. Winds will be southerly at five to 10 miles per hour. There’s a slight risk of thunderstorms later for everyone.

The forecasters warn that the conditions will spur a risk of heat illnesses.

“The excessive heat will create hazardous conditions. The potential for heat related health issues will be high, especially for the elderly and for those in poor health,” the advisory warns.

The National Weather Service provides the following tips to deal with the conditions:

    Drink plenty of fluids.
    Stay in an air-conditioned room.
    Stay out of the sun.
Check up on relative and neighbors.
Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing.
If you work or spend time outside, take extra precautions.
