Iraq joins release negotiations for detained U.S. hikers

More than two years after three Americans were jailed in Iran during a hike, negotiations for their release are still underway.

Iraq has entered the discussion, as the Associated Press reports, and officials are currently in Tehran with representatives from Oman as Iran battles for $1 million in bail for exchange for the hikers’ freedom.

Bail of $500,000 each was set earlier this week for Elkins Park native Josh Fattal and his friend, Shane Bauer. Their hiking companion, Sarah Shourd, was released last year.

There is still no timetable for a release.
