IPod, you hear

This week is Buds In The Schools Week in several Philadelphia schools.

Philadelphia is joining a national push to teach kids how to listen to music on headphones and ear buds without damaging their hearing. There will be concerts at six Philadelphia schools aimed at getting the word out about rising trends in hearing loss related to this practice.

Studies show kids are over using iPods and similar devices, which can contribute to hearing loss. And right now nearly 20 percent of adolescents experience hearing loss. That’s 5 percent over the rates of the last 15 years.

The concerts will feature jazz and world music artist Oran Etkin and 2009 GRAMMY nominee and Parents’ Choice Awardee Brady Rymer.
