Interstate 95 lane switch in Philly begins tonight and goes through Saturday

Listen

More work on Interstate 95 will mean some delays beginning tonight and going into Saturday afternoon.

PennDOT’s Gene Blaum says workers will shift traffic patterns on the highway.

“Crews are going to be relocating construction barriers painting new lines to move three lanes of northbound traffic from the right side of the highway to the center of the highway,” Blaum said. “That traffic pattern switch will occur in the area where I-95 spans Lehigh Avenue and it will continue up through the Allegheny Avenue interchange.”

Blaum says the long-term project will add another lane to each side of the highway to ease rush-hour gridlock.

“There’s still additional projects to come there will be additional contracts to rebuild the southbound side of the highway as is currently being done on the northbound side.”

The widening and reconstruction are expected to continue through 2018.
