Inquirer journalist sheds light on Conlin report

Philadelphia Inquirer investigative reporter speaks with NewsWorks Tonight host Dave Heller about the child molestation allegations against former Daily News sports columnist Bill Conlin.

Phillips broke the story after one of the alleged victims contacted her about possible abuse and then lead her to others who claimed they had similar experiences with Conlin.

“These were people who described what they say happened to them in vivid detail with very descriptive recall, there were multiple accusers here, the fact that they had gone to the prosecutor’s office, I thought added to their credibility,” said Phillips.

Since Phillips’ report two more women have come forward claiming that they too were abused by the Hall of Fame writer.

Conlin’s lawyer, George Bochetto told WHYY’s Dave Davies that the columnist was floored by the allegations.  “He’s engaged me to do everything possible to bring the facts forward to vindicate his name,” said Bochetto.
