Indigo Schuy brings fashion to the fit in Chestnut Hill

Chestnut Hill’s retail scene has been a revolving door with new businesses popping up and others leaving. This week high on the hill there are two new businesses. Iron Hill Brewery officially opened on Tuesday and tomorrow Indigo Schuy at 8432 Germantown Ave., celebrates its grand opening.

Indigo Schuy (pronounced SKY) specializes in clothes and accessories for active people. The clothes here are designed to showcase all of your hard work in the gym. “I would say it’s a sports boutique. We offer comfortable clothing for running, tennis, and yoga. It’s active ware,” said Indigo Schuy’s co-owner Schuy Nunn.

Nunn is probably her own target demographic. She has run three marathons and completed a triathalon, belongs to two tennis teams.

Business strategy

Nunn said she and her husband Steve said they felt the active lifestyles of Chestnut Hill was a perfect fit for their shop and even the current economic downturn has an upside. “Some people say the best time to open a business is a recession. It’s all growth (from here),” she said. Indigo Schuy has signed a two-year lease for the location.

To take advantage of that potential growth, Nunn said in the next few months the store’s online e-commerce website will go up. She said a big part of their marketing strategy will be through social media. “I think the social networking, from what we’ve been told, is the way to go these days. So we do think Facebook will play a big role.” Nunn said she also expects Indigo Schuy will sponsor athletic events to get their name out.
