In photos: Philadelphia remembers Trayvon Martin with Love Park vigil
More than 500 people gathered to show their support for the family of slain teen Trayvon Martin at a vigil in Love Park on a windy Monday evening.
Martin, 17, was shot and killed last month while walking home from a convenience store in the Florida community of Sanford. The shooter identified as George Zimmerman, a community watch captain, said he shot the teen in self defense. Martin was unarmed. No arrests have been made.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has spoken out against the incident. “It was an assassination. I do feel that way. I feel very very strongly about this,” said Nutter.
The vigil came after a “Million Hoodie March” held Friday where thousands marched from Philadelphia 30th Street Station to Love Park.
