Immigrant workers, Trader Joe’s involved in wage dispute

Members and supporters of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers were in Philadelphia yesterday to convince Trader Joe’s to increase the wage for its immigrant workers in Florida. The group is calling for a raise of one cent more per pound of tomatoes to go directly to the workers — an agreement McDonald’s, Subway and Whole Foods have made, as CIW tells Philadelphia Weekly.

But Trader Joe’s says the issue isn’t as cut and dry as it seems, saying the proposal is overreaching and doesn’t guarantee the additional wages will go directly to the workers.PW has an account from am immigrant worker, and more details from Trader Joe’s.
